University of Southern California Recognizes Asian Pacific Alumni

Rei Umekubo, Managing Partner at Pilot Capital Investments, LLC, in Los Angeles, keeps close ties to his alma mater, the University of Southern California (USC). In fact, Rei Umekubo sits on the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors as well as the USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association (APAA) Board of Directors.

In spring 2017, USC hosted its Asian Pacific Alumni Association Scholarship and Awards Gala in Beverly Hills. At the event, it honored USC graduates of Asian Pacific descent. Among them were John Iino, who graduated with his juris doctor in 1987, and Oliver Wong, who acquired his master of business administration in 1977. Both earned Leadership Awards for their impressive contributions to their respective fields. Iino, a partner at the large global law firm of Reed Smith, LLP, serves as the firm’s chief diversity officer and co-chairs its Japan Business Team. Wong is CEO of the international plywood importer Far East American, LLC, and CEO and founder of Modus Furniture International.

Besides honoring worthy USC alumni, the gala served as a fundraising platform to benefit students enrolled at the university as well as those enrolling in the future. The event proceeds sustain APAA scholarship funds and other support initiatives.
