About Me

Over the course of his career, global real estate investment professional Rei Umekubo has demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of markets for acquisitions and asset management. He entered the industry as a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he majored in finance and business economics, and accepted his first professional position with Robert M. Bass Realty (fka Ameribass Realty). Responsible for the underwriting and management of more than $200 million in assets, Mr. Umekubo became knowledgeable of multiple asset types.

Subsequently named Vice President of Lone Star Opportunity Funds, Mr. Umekubo began working on a global level with assets in Europe and Japan as well as in the United States. He then expanded this knowledge as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Bass Group's new daVinci Advisors Japan.

In 1999, Mr. Umekubo became Managing Director and Senior Acquisitions Officer for MSREF, a major global investment firm, with properties in Japan, Korea, China, and Hong Kong. In this role, he led the acquisition of the Mitsubishi Headquarters Building, a transaction that proved the largest in Japan's history as well as in the history of the firm. After acquiring $8 billion in assets in eight years, he brought his talents into the Australian market.

After facilitating the acquisition of numerous high-profile office and hotel properties, including the Royal Pines Hotel and Golf Resort, Mr. Umekubo returned to Los Angeles, California to found Pilot Capital Investments. He has since led the firm as its sole principal, in which role he oversees investments throughout the United States
